Develop Accessible Web Pages
Get Started!
First you will need to decide the best way to disseminate your course materials online. Appalachian currently supports two major methods of online course production:
- AsULearn Course Management System
In its most simplistic form a CMS is software that allows instructors to easily build a website, available only to students registered for the course, no HTML skills necessary. AsULearn further extends this concept providing numerous tools for teaching, such as online forums, assignments, online testing, etc. - Traditional Web Site
A traditional HTML website allows instructors to create a more visually creative and flexible site, but requires knowledge of HTML to maintain the site and update content. Additionally, the support of independently run scripts outside of AsULearn are not available at this time (i.e. discussion boards, wikis, chat features).
If you're not sure which option is best for you - just Ask!
Personal Web Space
All faculty, staff and students automatically have personal web accounts as long as they are members of the Appalachian community. For information on setting up your default AXP server account, requesting PM server accounts, and uploading files to your personal web space please visit the Webmaster's Office.
AsULearn
Request a free development course and use AsULearn to make your course webpages and files available to your students online. AsULearn is a Learning Management System that provides faculty with numerous tools for teaching, such as online forums, assignments, online testing, etc. To learn more about AsULearn and other tools for teaching available at Appalachian please see the Resources area of this website.
