Course Backup (content only)

Creating a Course Backup with No Students or Student Data

This type of backup has no user data and is essentially a shell of the course containing only the
course files, activities, and resources without the previous students. This “Content Only” backup is
used to Restore into additional course sites to create a new iteration or clone of the course content
only
.

Step-by-Step Backup Process
Open the course with the content to be backed up. From the Administration block, click the Backup
link. Administration > Backup

A screen similar to the one below will appear. By clicking the NONE link above User Data, the
backup will not include any student data in the file.

Make certain to scroll down and match your selections in the USERS, LOGS, USER FILES.

After clicking the Continue button at the bottom, of the page, the next screen will warn you
that a backup with no users is being created. This is correct, so scroll down and click
“Continue”.

The next page will indicate when the backup is complete. Click continue again.

When the backup is complete, a zipped file will appear in the Files area within the backup
folder. The date will appear so users may distinguish which backup is the most recent.

Download your most recent course backup to your local machine for safekeeping and
redundancy.

To download the zipped course backup, simply right-click (ctrl-click for Macs) on the file
name and select Save Link As... (this context menu choice varies by browser; you may also
see Save Linked File As... or Save Target As...)

Once you create this backup and save it your local hard drive, you can then upload that
zipped file into any other AsULearn course and restore it.
