Elaine’s role as an instructional developer at Appalachian State University began in August 2005. Her technology expertise includes certification as a Flash MX designer, training as an administrator for Blackboard and WebCT, digital audio / video production, and proficiently with a variety of multimedia presentation development software.
She previously served as Valencia Community College’s first distance learning coordinator and was awarded a Title III grant for faculty leadership in online course development. Additionally, she was invited to present workshops on best practices in online course delivery, and toured as a plenary speaker at national conferences for both Houghton Mifflin’s and Prentice Hall’s student success college division. Prentice Hall has recently published her student success textbook, Conscious Choices, which focuses on critical thinking, self directed learning skills, and emotional intelligence.
As a professor, Elaine’s teaching experiences include digital media courses at Rollins College, in Winter Park, Fl, student success courses at Valencia Community College in Orlando, FL, and Freshman Seminar here at Appalachian State University.
